45 Extraordinary things to do at 45!

I have always been up for a challenge, so when a friend showed me this project, I knew I had to take part. I have always been quite a shy person, especially having my photo taken, so knew that this would be difficult.

I started playing Ukulele when I moved to Brighton 9 years ago. The Uke scene is great for meeting interesting, fun, and beer drinking people. Ukulele and beer seem to go hand in hand! This has increased my confidence as I can now play and sing on my own in front of an audience, something I never thought I would do!

I have taken part in various projects for the Brighton Festival/Fringe over the last 4 years, including a play where I played both an Irish and French character so 2 different accents (very ‘Allo, Allo on my part!). I find that performing as someone else is always easier and less nerve wracking then being yourself.

I joined a choir 4 years ago which has been amazing. We do a performance at the end of every term which is always a highlight. My body shape fluctuates so I find it hard to look at pictures of myself.

I would never of considered this a few months ago but re-joined the gym recently so do feel slightly better about myself. The thought of being naked in a public outdoor space is scary but also quite exciting.

Sometimes being out of your comfort zone is good and easier as life goes on. My look on life is that if you don’t go for it, or wait for others, then you won’t end up doing the things you want.

I often do things on my own so that I do not miss an opportunity. Since having these pictures taken, I would consider doing more naked projects if the possibility arose.

My offering is a piece of wood I got from when I did conservation volunteering on Lundy Island. Lundy is such an amazing place and has one of the best pubs! They do not allow mobile phones in there so books, boardgames and good old-fashioned chat is encouraged.

Whilst on the Island I met a couple of people who I now consider close friends. The wood is a piece of Rhododendron which looks like a pipe.

I have been back many times as it was one of the best, funniest times in my life.
