I take a lot of photos with Jan.

I take a lot of photos with Jan. I say “with” as the more we have got to know each other, the more our artistic, working, relationship has changed. Initially, Jan posed for my Human Nests project and then my Ages project. Everyone in Ages has a significant amount of influence over the photos I take, but they are more my creations.

More recently, I’ve been discussing ideas for photos with Jan, such as the Anti-Social Behaviour set, and we have been working much more cooperatively. We share and discuss ideas for Jan to pose and for me to capture and to use to create images.

We have taken more based on our shared interests in different ways of seeing the body. We have focussed on lines and symmetry, skin folds and stretches. Unlike most of my work, these shots can potentially be seen as more sexual. That isn’t our intention, but we are both fine with them being seen that way if that is how people find them to be.

The erotic, sex, are wholly intrinsic to all of our lives whether or not we seek to encounter them more, or less – whether we just note them or, we get off on them, or we think they are wrong. I discuss with Jan how images of nudity, bodies, intimacy and so on align with ideas of beauty, age and sex.

We’re planning more work together to merge the nude, surreal, abstract and, more than likely, pushing some boundaries.. watch this space.
